Mainland China has issued its highest typhoon alert as Typhoon Noul approaches the Guangdong coast, with more than 340,000 people evacuated from the province. The storm is expected to make landfall early Sunday morning near Huizhou and Shanwei, bringing severe winds and heavy rain across the region.
Hong Kong raised its No. 8 storm signal as the Observatory tracked Noul crossing the northeastern South China Sea on Saturday. More than 150 flights were cancelled at the city's airport, including Cathay Pacific services from early Sunday morning through mid-afternoon. China Airlines and EVA Air also cancelled or delayed Hong Kong flights scheduled for Sunday.
The National Meteorological Center forecast heavy rain across southeastern Guangdong and southern Fujian through the weekend, while Taiwan's Central Weather Administration warned of rainfall in the island's south and east.
