A 28-year-old man was killed by a falling tree during severe storms near the Felsenbühne open-air theatre in Rathen, in Germany's Saxon Switzerland region, Zeit Online reported.

Three people were seriously injured and ten others sustained injuries in the incident, while around 40 people were evacuated from the area. A police helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera was deployed to assist the search for missing persons, which concluded around 11 p.m. local time.

The Felsenbühne has cancelled all performances through Monday. The nearby Amselgrund valley and Amselsee lake remain closed to the public. The German Weather Service had issued warnings of severe thunderstorms across Saxony ahead of the storm.
