A falling tree crushed the cab of a lorry on a country road near Lübesse in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on Thursday evening, lightly injuring the 26-year-old driver with windscreen glass. The storm-toppled tree landed directly on the vehicle's cabin, and damage is estimated at 100,000 euros. The driver was taken to hospital.
In a separate weather-related incident, a tree fell on a group of youths at a bay on Lake Möhne in North Rhine-Westphalia's Soest district. An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old were seriously injured. Four people were at the scene when the tree came down.
Both incidents occurred as storms swept across parts of Germany, bringing down trees and causing significant property damage.
