A suspected tornado tore through Glückstadt in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein on Sunday evening, causing severe damage to 40 to 50 buildings and prompting the evacuation of several residents. No physical injuries were reported, though one person suffered a nervous breakdown, and total damages are estimated in the six- to seven-figure euro range.
The storm system also disrupted rail traffic after an overhead line mast was snapped on the track between Itzehoe and Elmshorn, causing delays. In nearby Groß Offenseth-Aspern, a shipping container was lifted by the winds and crushed three to four vehicles.
Separately, heavy rain on the A7 motorway near Bad Bramstedt caused two road accidents, leaving five people with minor injuries.
