Three drownings reported in Spain and Portugal as summer bathing season continues

A man in his 60s died on Thursday after being pulled unconscious from the La Aceña reservoir in Peguerinos, Ávila province, emergency services in Castilla y León said. A medical helicopter, a basic life-support ambulance and primary-care staff from Las Navas del Marqués responded to calls received at 18:25 near the former picnic area, but the man could not be revived.

In Catalonia, a 97-year-old woman drowned in a private pool in Plans de Sió, Lleida, after emergency lines were alerted at 20:30 on Friday. She is the tenth fatal drowning in pools since the regional bathing season opened on 15 June, with roughly thirty non-fatal injuries recorded, mostly among minors.

In Portugal, a 40-year-old man died at the Aldeia do Mato river beach on the Castelo de Bode dam in Abrantes on Saturday. He was found in cardiorespiratory arrest following a 14:09 alert, and a VMER medical team declared him dead at the scene.
