A Sudanese army drone strike on a traditional court in North Darfur killed at least 35 people and wounded several others on Sunday, according to the Emergency Lawyers group. The attack hit the village of Garra al-Zawaya at approximately 1pm local time, damaging the building used for resolving local and tribal disputes. Among the dead were four tribal leaders and two commanders from the Rapid Support Forces, a witness said.
The strike is part of a broader pattern of drone warfare targeting civilians. More than 1,000 civilians were killed in drone attacks during the first five months of 2026, according to the United Nations.
Sudan's civil war between the army and the RSF began in April 2023 and has displaced over 12 million people. The conflict has created what the UN describes as the world's largest humanitarian crisis, with more than 30 million people dependent on external aid and tens of thousands killed.
