An Israeli drone strike hit mourners attending a funeral in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Thursday, killing at least eight people and wounding 20, medical sources said. The strike targeted the procession near the Ahmad Yassin mosque for Taher Abdul Wahid, a Palestinian killed in an earlier Israeli attack the same day.
The Israeli military confirmed the strike, saying it had targeted a militant cell. Hamas condemned the attack as a "brutal massacre."
The strike was part of a broader escalation: at least 14 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza on Thursday. Israeli strikes have risen to more than 40 in June, the highest monthly toll since the October ceasefire. At least 1,127 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began, with the overall death toll in the war reaching at least 73,250 since the conflict erupted with the Hamas attack of October 2023.
