Stockholm hosted one of Europe's largest pride parades on Saturday, with an estimated 50,000 participants and half a million spectators lining the streets despite heightened security concerns following a terrorist attack at Berlin's pride event a week earlier.
The July 25 Berlin attack, which German officials classified as an Islamist terrorist incident, killed one person and wounded 29. Stockholm Pride organizers held a minute of silence with the German Embassy at the event's opening. Swedish police, coordinating with Säpo and pride organizations, assessed no elevated threat to Saturday's parade, deploying drones and both plainclothes and uniformed officers as precautions.
The parade followed a new route from Norr Mälarstrand through the city center to Slussen, disrupting metro, bus, and tram services. SVT broadcast live coverage hosted by Fredrik Ralstrand, featuring entertainer Jonas Gardell and police operations chief Annika Laestadius.
