Hundreds of thousands of people descended on the British seaside city of Brighton on Saturday for its annual Pride parade, drawing crowds to the coastal city for its 35th anniversary under the theme 'the power of love.'
The parade began at Hove Lawns and is expected to finish at Preston Park, where a two-day ticketed festival features headliners Raye on Saturday and Diana Ross on Sunday, alongside performances from Jessie J and Five. Organisers expect up to 450,000 people city-wide over the weekend, with armed police confirmed to be present at the event. The celebrations come one week after an Islamist attacker in Berlin drove into Christopher Street Day participants and attacked others with a machete, killing a Polish woman and injuring 31 people. Pride events also took place Saturday in Hamburg, Amsterdam and Stockholm.
