A stag was shot dead by a wildlife officer in London's Richmond Park after it injured a man in his 60s who was picnicking on Saturday. Emergency services responded to the south-west London park around 18:16 BST, and the man was taken to hospital with chest injuries assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
Royal Parks said the male deer had approached the man's picnic group near Roehampton Gate Cafe looking for food before the attack. The charity, which maintains London's royal parks, subsequently deemed the stag a danger to visitors and a wildlife officer put it down.
The charity warned visitors to maintain at least 50 metres from deer in Richmond and Bushy parks, citing a rise in people feeding wild animals. Officials said they were shocked to see online videos of visitors approaching deer in nearby Bushy Park despite the warnings.
