Meteorological agencies in the Czech Republic and Poland have issued high-level storm warnings as a weather front bearing heavy rain, hail, and powerful gusts moves across Central Europe.
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute escalated its alert for the country's southeast, placing the Zlín, South Moravian, Olomouc, Moravian-Silesian, Vysočina, and parts of the Pardubice and South Bohemia regions under a high-danger warning from 15:00 to 21:00. Storms may bring rainfall totals of up to 35 millimetres, hailstones around 2 centimetres in diameter, and wind gusts reaching 90 km/h. A lower-level alert covers the remainder of the country through 18:00, while a nationwide fire-risk warning remains in effect.
In Poland, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first- and second-degree alerts as the front entered from the southwest. RCB emergency SMS warnings were sent to residents in the Opole, Silesia, and Lesser Poland voivodeships, cautioning of possible power outages. Strong to severe storms are forecast for southeastern Poland on Monday, with conditions mirroring those expected in the Czech Republic.
