A second bout of severe thunderstorms is set to strike the Czech Republic from Friday afternoon into Saturday, after earlier warnings were issued for the country's southeast. A high-danger alert takes effect at 16:00 on Friday across a band stretching from South Bohemia through the Central Bohemian Region, Vysočina, and into Pardubice, Hradec Králové, and parts of Liberec, with torrential downpours potentially dumping up to 70 millimetres of rain and wind gusts reaching 90 km/h.
Meteorologists expect a large storm system, possibly featuring a bow echo, to develop in the lee of the Alps and sweep across parts of Vysočina and Moravia. The broader weather pattern is driven by a wavering cold front lingering over Czech territory until Saturday, with hailstones up to three centimetres in diameter also possible.
Conditions are expected to clear for the weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures around 25 °C on Saturday and Sunday, before a new low-pressure system brings further heavy rain early next week.
