Czech police have recovered the body of a 28-year-old man who went missing during a severe storm on Lake Most in the Ústí nad Labem region. The body was found on Wednesday evening, police spokesperson Veronika Hyšplerová confirmed Thursday morning.
The man was among a group of six paddleboarders stranded on the lake when a powerful storm with very strong winds swept across the region late Tuesday afternoon. Rescue crews pulled four members of the group to safety, but two fell into the water, witnesses reported. A search for the second missing man is ongoing, with divers, river police, and underwater drones scouring the water, shoreline, and surrounding area.
Lake Most, formed by flooding a former brown coal mine adjacent to the city of the same name, covers more than 300 hectares and reaches depths exceeding 70 metres, complicating recovery efforts.
