A Russian Shahed drone struck a passenger train in Ukraine's Odesa region on Wednesday, killing the driver and his assistant as the locomotive pulled into a station. All 340 passengers, including 67 children, were evacuated by bus to Odesa with no reported injuries among them, regional governor Oleh Kiper said.

The attack was part of a broader overnight barrage in which Russia launched 133 drones at Ukraine, with air defenses destroying or suppressing 111. Russian strikes also hit port infrastructure in Izmail and Reni, triggering fires and power outages, while one drone breached Romanian airspace, prompting Bucharest to scramble F-16 fighters.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for additional air defense support and greater pressure on Moscow. Civilian casualties in Ukraine reached their highest monthly level since May 2022 in July, with at least 437 killed.
