A Russian Geran-2 drone crashed and exploded near the village of Copanca in Moldova during the night of July 12–13, 2026, after straying into Moldovan airspace during a strike on Ukraine's Odesa region. The incident sparked a fire but caused no casualties. Moldova's Defence Ministry confirmed the airspace breach, and Moldovan diplomats condemned it as a serious and unacceptable violation. Law enforcement cordoned off the site and opened an investigation.
The incursion occurred amid a large-scale Russian aerial assault on Ukraine involving 134 attack and decoy drones and three Kh-59/69 missiles. Ukrainian forces intercepted 126 projectiles, though six drones struck across five locations, wounding at least 57 people across multiple regions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia targeted civilian infrastructure, including public buses, residential buildings, and a hospital. In Odesa, a fire at a bus depot destroyed six vehicles.
