The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) is considering Roberto Martínez as the next head coach of the Netherlands national team following Ronald Koeman's resignation after the World Cup. The 53-year-old Spaniard has been identified as a potential successor and is reportedly in discussions with KNVB technical director Nigel de Jong, though Martínez's lawyer has denied any direct talks have taken place.
Martínez, who managed Belgium from 2016 to 2022 and led Portugal at the most recent World Cup, would become the first foreign coach of the Netherlands since 1978. The KNVB has faced numerous rejections from candidates including Peter Bosz, Arne Slot, and Erik ten Hag, having also spoken with Michael Reiziger.
The role would mark Martínez's third national team appointment in four years.
