Real Madrid have agreed a club-record transfer fee with RB Leipzig for 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande, with the deal struck on Wednesday and the Ivorian expected to sign a contract running until 2031.

Madrid will pay an initial €125m plus up to €15m in add-ons, a package that could reach €140m and surpass the €134m the club paid for Jude Bellingham in 2023. Diomande becomes the most expensive African player in history, eclipsing the £72m Arsenal spent on Nicolas Pépé in 2019, and enters the top five costliest transfers ever. Leganés, who sold the teenager to Leipzig for €20m last summer, are due a 5% sell-on clause from the move.

Diomande scored 16 goals and provided 10 assists in a breakout season at Leipzig. Meanwhile, Madrid are confident of retaining Vinícius Júnior after offering an improved contract worth close to €30m a season amid interest from Arsenal.
