Spanish teenager Rafael Jódar, widely regarded as the breakout player of 2026, overcame a one-set deficit to defeat France's Corentin Moutet 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in his Montreal Masters debut on Wednesday, advancing to the third round just 48 hours after losing the Washington final to Taylor Fritz.
The world No. 15, competing in his first professional season, converted six of seven break points and saved five of eight against Moutet over two hours and 17 minutes at the sixth ATP Masters 1000 event of the year. Jódar will next face Italy's Lorenzo Musetti, whom he beat in three sets just last week in Washington.
In other Montreal action, Argentina's Thiago Agustín Tirante upended Fritz 7-5, 6-3 to reach the third round of a Masters 1000 for the third consecutive event, following runs in Madrid and Rome.
