Rafael Jódar defeated eighth-seeded Jiří Lehečka 6-3, 6-3 in just over an hour at the Montreal Masters on Saturday, extending his breakthrough season with a third consecutive Masters 1000 quarterfinal appearance after earlier runs in Madrid and Rome.
Jódar, now up to a career-high No. 13 in the ATP rankings, committed just 10 unforced errors compared to Lehečka's 34 in the one-sided contest. The victory marks his seventh quarterfinal in the last eight tournaments since April. He is now the second-highest ranked player remaining in the Montreal draw.
Next up is a third meeting of the season with France's Arthur Fils. In other action, Brandon Nakashima defeated Arthur Rinderknech 7-6(4), 5-7, 7-5 following a lengthy weather delay.
