Alexandra Eala became the first Filipino player to win a WTA Tour-level singles title, defeating top seed Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the Mubadala DC Open final after the championship match was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to bad weather in Washington.
The 21-year-old, who trained at Rafael Nadal's academy in Mallorca, rose to a career-high world ranking of 20 following her run, which included victories over Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, Leylah Fernandez and Zheng Qinwen. She is scheduled to face Alycia Parks in the second round of the Canadian Open.
In the men's final, Taylor Fritz claimed his 11th career ATP title and first of 2026, defeating Rafael Jodar 7-6(2), 6-4.
