Hundreds of residents in Pozzuoli blocked the town's port and main roads on Monday, demanding immediate government action following a strong bradyseismic earthquake on July 31 that left 57 buildings unusable and forced the evacuation of 395 homes. Demonstrators accused national and local authorities of abandoning citizens, with drinking water cut off in several neighborhoods since Friday evening.
The protests came a day after residents confronted Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli during his visit to the Flavian Amphitheatre and Rione Terra archaeological sites in the Phlegraean Fields. A delegation of six residents demanded answers on shelter for the displaced and the restoration of essential services. Giuli later said the area's archaeological heritage was largely intact, adding that emergency stabilization procedures had been activated.
Firefighters reported 227 interventions completed with 655 still pending, while Naples fire chief Giuseppe Paduano urged the public to call emergency lines only for genuine danger. The peaceful port blockade halted ferry services to nearby islands during the demonstration.
