Prince Harry and six other high-profile claimants must pay £9.54 million in interim legal costs to the publisher of the Daily Mail by 4 p.m. on 28 August, following their defeat in a privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Limited. The claimants, who include musician Elton John and actress Liz Hurley, had alleged unlawful information-gathering by the publisher but failed to prove their case during an 11-week trial in London earlier this year.
Mr Justice Nicklin dismissed all claims in July, and the interim payment represents a portion of ANL's total legal costs exceeding £34 million. The publisher had strongly denied the allegations throughout the proceedings.
The costs order comes as Harry and his wife Meghan announced plans to return to Britain later this month with their two children, intending to live outside London.
