The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating a Counter Terrorism Policing London staff member over allegations they failed to pursue a potentially relevant line of inquiry during an attempted burglary investigation last year, authorities said Friday.
The referral stems from an attempted burglary at a Greater London address reported in April 2025. The Metropolitan Police and CTP London investigated at the time but made no arrests and closed the case pending new leads. Following the murder of former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe, 78, who was found dead at her Dartmoor home on July 9, detectives reopened the burglary probe and identified a line of inquiry that was not pursued initially.
Joshua Kerry, 28, has been charged with Widdecombe's murder. The IOPC received a mandatory conduct referral on August 7 and launched an independent investigation.
