A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of former British politician Ann Widdecombe was found at her home in Devon with serious injuries, prompting a cross-country police investigation.
Widdecombe, 78, was discovered at her property in Haytor on the morning of July 9. She is believed to have been attacked at around 12:30 on July 8. The suspect was arrested in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on the evening of July 11. CCTV footage from earlier that day shows a man placing a wooden stick into a red car before getting into the same vehicle. Police later removed a red car from a Rotherham driveway and cordoned off a property for forensic examination.
Devon and Cornwall Police said they received more than 120 tips and Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman stated there was no evidence of terrorism or political motivation.
