NATO ambassadors convened Wednesday to condemn a series of Russian airspace incursions into Poland and Romania, declaring that Moscow bears full responsibility for what the alliance called dangerous and unacceptable provocations.
The North Atlantic Council expressed full solidarity with the affected allies and reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine. The meeting addressed a Russian Kh-101 missile that struck near Tarnawa-Kolonia on July 30, roughly 60 kilometres from Lublin in eastern Poland, as well as drone breaches of Romanian airspace on July 24 and 25, after which a Romanian F-16 shot down a drone over an uninhabited area. Romania has since expelled a Russian diplomat in protest.
The alliance said the incidents demonstrate Russia's growing willingness to take risks. Poland's foreign ministry welcomed NATO's direct attribution of blame to Moscow. Separately, a drone laden with explosives was recently discovered among Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig/Halle airport in Germany.
