Polish prosecutors confirm crashed object was Russian Kh-101 missile armed with explosives

· Conflict POLRUSUKR

Polish prosecutors have categorically confirmed that the object which crashed in eastern Poland was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile manufactured near Moscow in the second quarter of 2026, carrying a significant quantity of explosive material, after an unidentified object breached Polish airspace during a Russian strike on western Ukraine early Thursday.

Lublin District Prosecutor's Office spokesman Marcin Kozak said the missile was not a drone, and investigators are pursuing charges of violating Polish airspace and causing an air traffic disaster, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. A Ukrainian expert arrived in Lublin on Thursday to assist the investigation, while evidence is being sent to Military Gendarmerie specialists. Investigators resumed searches on Saturday using deep-scanning equipment, as a key missile fragment may lie beyond the reach of standard detection devices.

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz disclosed that a second projectile approached Poland but turned back before crossing the border. Prime Minister Donald Tusk summoned the Russian ambassador over the incident.
