Polish prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old Ukrainian national with 47 criminal offenses committed between November 2024 and August 2025, including the desecration of memorials to Polish victims of the UPA and preparing a drone attack on the Polish president's car during a Warsaw military parade on August 15, 2025.
The suspect, identified only as Ilya K., allegedly recruited accomplices online and paid them in cryptocurrency through exchanges registered in Russia and China. Vandals sprayed inscriptions and flew red-and-black flags at monuments in Warsaw, Domostawa, and Wrocław, the Internal Security Agency (ABW) said.
The ABW stated the crimes were designed to inflame ethnic tensions between Poland and Ukraine, exposing what it described as a Russian intelligence mechanism to sow discord. In late June 2026, the agency separately uncovered a Russia-financed scheme targeting Ukrainian refugees in Poland to fuel social divisions.
