Multiple killed in crash involving police vehicle in northeast England

Multiple people have died after a collision involving a police car on a major road near Middlesbrough in northeast England. The crash occurred at about 3:39 a.m. on Saturday on the A66 in South Bank, an area just east of Middlesbrough.

Cleveland Police confirmed multiple fatalities from the three-vehicle collision, which involved a police vehicle and a Volkswagen Passat, but did not provide an exact death toll in its initial statement. The North East Ambulance Service dispatched 14 units to the scene.

The A66, one of the principal routes in northern England, was closed in both directions between Normanby Road and Church Lane in Eston while emergency crews worked at the site.
