A man in his early twenties was seriously wounded after police fired at least one shot in Munich's Schwabing neighbourhood on Monday. Officers responded to emergency calls around 17:15 local time after residents reported a suspicious person handling a pistol-like object on the street near the corner of Clemensstraße and Belgradstraße.
The suspect was transported to a hospital following the shooting. Police sealed off a wide perimeter around the intersection, disrupting tram services in the area. Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing a loud bang consistent with gunfire at approximately the same time the emergency call was received.
Investigators from the criminal police, forensics teams, and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office arrived at the scene to begin their inquiry. The state agency routinely takes charge of investigations whenever a police officer discharges a weapon in the line of duty.
