Liverpool owners FSG in talks to sell minority stake to Amit Bhatia consortium

Fenway Sports Group is in negotiations to sell a minority stake in Liverpool to a consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and backed by steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, the club's owners confirmed on Tuesday.

The discussions are at an early stage with no agreement finalised, though a deal would value Liverpool at more than $6 billion, representing a sharp rise from the £300 million FSG paid for the club in 2010. The structure would mirror a 2023 sale to Dynasty Equity, which acquired a small stake for roughly £164 million.

Bhatia, 46 and the son-in-law of Mittal, stepped down as co-owner and director of Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday, transferring his share to Ruben Gnanalingam. The Mittal family, which manages assets estimated at £16 billion, recently purchased a majority stake in IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals. Liverpool are currently in the United States for a pre-season tour under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
