Israeli drone strikes kill Gaza City police chief and another Palestinian

Israeli drone strikes killed two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, including Gaza City's police chief, Jamal Abu Kamil, whose vehicle was hit by three successive missiles on a coastal road in the Sheikh Ajlin neighbourhood. Two others travelling with him were seriously wounded and taken to Al-Shifa hospital, which received Abu Kamil's body.

A separate strike west of Khan Younis killed one person, civil defence officials said. The Israeli military said it had targeted a Hamas commander near Khan Younis whom it accused of planning attacks on Israeli soldiers. Thursday's strikes brought to three the number of drone attacks in the past 24 hours, following Wednesday's strike — the first aerial attack on Gaza in more than a week.

Health authorities say Israeli violations since the ceasefire agreement have killed 1,259 Palestinians and wounded 4,148 as of Wednesday.
