Israeli airstrike on Gaza City café kills at least seven despite US pressure for ceasefire

Israeli missiles struck a crowded café at Gaza City's port on Monday, killing at least seven people — including a child — and wounding more than fifteen, health officials said. Two missiles hit the Sweet and Bitter café in the fishing port, where tents of displaced persons had been set up.

The Israeli military said it targeted several Hamas commanders planning attacks against its troops. A Hamas source told CNN the targeted group was a non-combat logistical team working on weapons collection under a ceasefire framework. Hamas and Islamic Jihad accused Israel of undermining the peace process.

The strike came one day after U.S. envoy Jared Kushner met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging him not to obstruct the stalled ceasefire plan. Netanyahu reaffirmed forces would withdraw only once Hamas is disarmed. More than 1,200 Palestinians have been killed since a ceasefire began last October.
