An Iranian state-aligned newspaper has published images of 13 world leaders depicted in orange prison uniforms and held responsible for the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in what amounts to a graphic threat list circulated by the Hamshahri daily. Those targeted include U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and European leaders Giorgia Meloni, Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, and Keir Starmer.
The publication follows vows of revenge by Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the slain ayatollah, who was killed in late February 2026 during joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes against Iran. The list appeared alongside crosshair imagery superimposed on the leaders' heads.
Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa expressed solidarity with Prime Minister Meloni over her inclusion on the list. The targeting of multiple sitting European heads of government marks a sharp escalation in Tehran's rhetoric following the February raids.
