U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Saturday that 1,000 missiles are armed and aimed at Iran, with thousands more to follow, if Tehran acts on threats against his life. The warning came as mourners at Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's funeral publicly called for Trump's assassination. Khamenei, 86, was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli strike in February.
The escalation follows Israeli intelligence reporting a concrete Iranian assassination plot against Trump, which the president himself raised at the NATO summit in Ankara on Wednesday. Despite signing a memorandum of understanding in June to end hostilities, Trump declared the April ceasefire over. Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf insisted Tehran would never surrender, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed launching 10 ballistic missiles at Jordan's Azraq air base on Thursday.
Regional mediators including Pakistan, Qatar, and Egypt have urged a return to diplomacy. Meanwhile, a U.S. military delegation is heading to Lebanon to oversee Israel's withdrawal from two pilot zones in the south under a separate June framework agreement.
