Iran has flatly rejected an Omani proposal to place the Strait of Hormuz under joint regional management, insisting instead on exclusive transit through Iranian territorial waters as a condition for any interim deal.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi warned the strait will remain closed and hostilities could resume if Tehran's terms are not accepted. Oman had proposed splitting the waterway into two equal shipping lanes with voluntary service fees, an idea discussed since June that angered Tehran when Muscat suggested vessels could transit through Omani waters. The Revolutionary Guard subsequently attacked tankers that ignored warnings and said the closure will persist as long as U.S. threats continue, after U.S. and Saudi warplanes struck Iranian-backed militia positions in Iraq.
