Iran executed Majid Adineh on Sunday, a protester accused of supporting the United States and Israel during the January anti-government demonstrations, the judiciary announced. Adineh was convicted of "waging war against God," arson, and national security offenses after his arrest near Karaj in Alborz province in early January. The Supreme Court upheld his death sentence, judiciary-linked Mizan Online reported.
Adineh is the 29th person executed in connection with the mass protests that erupted in late 2025 over Iran's economic crisis, according to Iran Human Rights. UN rights chief Volker Türk said at least 27 executions have been tied directly to the demonstrations since March.
Executions have accelerated since the US-Israeli offensive against Iran began on February 28. Iran carried out at least 1,639 executions last year, the highest since 1989, rights groups say. Authorities reported more than 3,000 deaths from the unrest.
