German police are reviving a decades-old murder investigation into the killing of 78-year-old Lieselotte Hohlmann, whose body was found in her home in Essen-Burgaltendorf in 1997, with the case set to be featured on broadcaster ZDF's crime-appeal show "Aktenzeichen XY... Ungelöst" on Wednesday evening.
Investigators say no signs of forced entry were found at the scene, suggesting the victim may have known her attacker. The killer fled with cash and the pensioner's personal diaries, according to case files. Police have recovered DNA traces from the crime scene that they believe could belong to the perpetrator.
The case will be presented in detail during the 20:15 CEST broadcast on 29 July, as authorities appeal to the public for new leads nearly three decades after the unsolved homicide.
