A German court has issued an arrest warrant against Alternative for Germany lawmaker Maximilian Krah following a legal dispute with satirist Jan Böhmermann, according to a report by Der Spiegel on Thursday.
The Chemnitz district court issued the warrant after Krah failed to appear for a scheduled asset disclosure hearing in mid-July. The case stems from a lawsuit Krah brought against Böhmermann after the ZDF comedian read a listener's claim on his podcast that Krah had ordered 200 bottles of champagne at Oktoberfest. Krah lost the proceedings, and Böhmermann initially recovered around 5,000 euros through enforcement action, with a further 296.26 euros still outstanding.
Krah expressed surprise at the warrant, saying he was caught off guard by additional demands and calling Böhmermann "a wretch". He added that he pays only reluctantly.
