Romanian authorities recovered fragments of four drones across the country on Friday, including wreckage scattered near the Black Sea resort towns of Costinești and Saturn, where beachgoers were evacuated after debris washed ashore. Additional drones were located in the border village of Plauru and in the Măcin Mountains near Greci, where limited combustion marks were found at the crash site.
The aerial targets evaded Romanian radar by flying at very low altitude, the Defence Ministry said. No casualties or property damage were reported. Specialist teams were deployed by helicopter to secure the sites. The ministry said the incidents did not indicate an increased risk to the country.
The discoveries came hours after an Italian Eurofighter shot down a drone of unknown origin in Latvian airspace, which Latvian forces said had entered the country as a result of Russian electromagnetic warfare. The North Atlantic Council convened on Wednesday to address the growing pattern of drone incidents across Eastern Europe.
