NATO jets shoot down drone in Latvian airspace after Russian electronic warfare

Allied fighter jets shot down a drone that entered Latvian airspace early on Friday, the Latvian military said, after issuing an air threat warning for the eastern part of the country. The military said the threat was over once the unmanned aircraft was intercepted.

The Latvian armed forces said the drone was foreign and had been pushed into Latvian airspace by Russian electronic warfare activity near the Balvi region. Latvia, a NATO and European Union member of roughly 1.9 million people, shares its eastern border with Russia.

Finland imposed temporary restrictions on air and sea traffic in the eastern Gulf of Finland around the same time as a security precaution. Baltic states, Finland, Poland and Romania have repeatedly raised drone alarms in recent months linked to Russia's war against Ukraine.
