A group of prominent former footballers has issued a coordinated call for structural reform at FIFA, demanding direct input for players and fans in governance decisions. Mikael Silvestre published a statement titled 'Enough is Enough!' on Monday, which was quickly shared by Lucy Bronze, Emmanuel Petit, and David James. The letter criticizes FIFA president Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in competitions, including the World Cup, to private investors.
The initiative follows revelations that major decisions were made without consulting players or considering supporters. Bixente Lizarazu, Robert Pires, Didier Drogba, Juan Sebastián Verón, and Emmanuel Adebayor joined the call for necessary change. The statement demands structural reform and genuine, direct participation rights for stakeholders.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin expects Infantino to resign or face an electoral challenge next March. However, Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroonian Football Association, expressed support for Infantino, saying he had done nothing wrong. Infantino has withdrawn plans to involve private investors in future World Cup deals.
