A global coalition of football supporters' groups has launched a petition calling for the resignation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, demanding sweeping reform of the sport's governing body. The Change.org petition draws support from fan organizations across all six FIFA confederations, including Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa, and multiple national groups. Signatories describe the failed private investment scheme as the culmination of a series of attacks on football's integrity and are calling for transparent decision-making with confederations, leagues, clubs, players, and fans included in major choices.
The backlash follows Infantino's abandoned plan to sell roughly 20 percent of World Cup commercial rights for $20 billion through a private investment vehicle. Three continental confederations accused him of deception over how the plan was devised, and UEFA threatened to boycott FIFA events, having lost confidence in his leadership. UEFA is also reportedly developing a proposal for a rotating FIFA presidency modeled on the European Union's system.
Infantino retains backing in Africa and South America and remains a candidate for a new term in March.
