Six Nordic football associations have declared they no longer have confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino and demanded binding guarantees that the World Cup and other major tournaments will never be opened to private ownership. The associations, representing Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands, issued a joint statement after meeting in Helsinki on Sunday.
The group called for an independent investigation into the failed FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, under which Infantino proposed selling stakes in the commercial rights of tournaments to private equity investors. The Nordic bodies backed broader demands from UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation, and CONCACAF for scrutiny of the episode.
Denmark's football association pledged to seek a credible alternative to Infantino in the presidential election scheduled for March. The FIFA president faces mounting pressure from multiple continental confederations to resign.
