A fraudulent party affiliation has blocked the registration of Flávio Bolsonaro's presidential candidacy ahead of Brazil's October elections, after electoral records showed him appearing under the rival Missão party. The Superior Electoral Court said the switch was not a cyberattack but misuse of credentials, while the registration deadline looms this Saturday.
The right-wing senator released his government programme on Thursday, pledging to curb the Supreme Court's powers, ban presidential re-election, lower the criminal age of responsibility to 16, and slash at least ten ministries. He faces incumbent left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is seeking a fourth term.
Meanwhile, Flávio and his stepmother Michelle Bolsonaro reconciled publicly for the campaign, setting aside months of personal friction as the campaign season begins on 16 August. Former president Jair Bolsonaro remains under house arrest in Brasília.
