Carlos Espi scored a 90th-minute winner to give Real Madrid a 2-1 victory over Espanyol in Jose Mourinho's first match back as manager in the La Liga season opener on Friday.

Jude Bellingham opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes, but Álex Calatrava levelled for Espanyol in the 30th minute. The match remained deadlocked until Kylian Mbappé dribbled into the penalty area and set up Espi, who finished from close range to seal the points in stoppage time.

Yan Diomande made his debut as a second-half substitute, but it was Espi who emerged as the match-winner in Mourinho's return to the Santiago Bernabéu touchline.
