Borussia Dortmund defeated Arsenal 3-2 in an Emirates Cup preseason friendly at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with Samuele Inacio, Konstantinos Karetsas and Joane Gadou scoring for the German side. Ethan Nwaneri and Viktor Gyökeres, from the penalty spot, replied for the hosts.
Arsenal prevailed 5-4 in a post-match penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Illan Meslier saving Mathis Albert's effort. Dortmund manager Niko Kovac singled out Gyökeres for praise despite the result.
The match came as Arsenal completed the £75 million signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle on a four-year deal, with Mikel Arteta calling the midfielder a "warrior." Dortmund next face Roma in a friendly before meeting Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August. Arsenal play Como 1907 on Thursday and Manchester City in the Community Shield on 16 August.
