A Scottish police officer who took his own life in May 2026 after being arrested on suspicion of rape has been linked to at least nine victims in one of Police Scotland's largest anti-corruption investigations.
Alan Greer, 47, was found dead on 6 May following a dawn raid on his home that seized electronic devices containing thousands of graphic images and videos. Detectives subsequently identified eight additional victims beyond the woman whose late-2025 report triggered the inquiry — five were sex workers who suffered serious sexual assaults, while two were female officers photographed inappropriately during training. Greer, who joined Strathclyde Police in 2009 and had 17 years of service, would have faced attempted murder charges had he survived, investigators said.
Police Scotland is appealing for further victims to come forward in what Assistant Chief Constable Lynn Ratcliff described as one of the unit's most complex inquiries.
