Berlin prosecutors have indicted a 68-year-old man on charges of rape in particularly severe cases and dangerous bodily harm in 22 incidents involving 14 women, alleging he rendered his victims unconscious before assaulting them.

The suspect allegedly used a mixture of sleeping pills and alcohol to incapacitate the women and then filmed the attacks. Investigators discovered the video recordings during a search of his premises in February 2026. He has been held in pre-trial custody since 3 March 2026.

While 14 victims are named in the indictment, investigators believe there may be more than 50 potential victims in total, with 58 affected persons identified so far; one case was dropped due to the statute of limitations. Prosecutors are seeking preventive detention in addition to a prison sentence should he be convicted.
