A 26-year-old British woman has been sentenced to six years in prison in Hong Kong after making a false rape allegation against a banker in an attempt to extort £100,000.
Judge Adriana Tse handed down the sentence on Wednesday at the Wanchai District Court, comprising five years for blackmail and three years for perverting the course of justice, with one year served consecutively. Isabel Rose, from Hackney in east London, was convicted following a six-day trial earlier this year.
The case centred on a police report Rose filed claiming she was raped at the banker's apartment on 1 February 2024. The man was arrested but released without charge. Prosecutors argued that WhatsApp messages showed Rose demanding £100,000 from the man shortly after the alleged incident. The banker transferred £5,000 before she requested a further £5,000. Rose has been sent to Tai Lam Correctional Institution.
