Two Iranian and Egyptian nationals and a third Egyptian man were jailed for up to 21 years on Wednesday for the rape of a woman on Brighton beach, in a case that has drawn attention to the UK's asylum system and deportation policy.
Ibrahim Alshafe and Abdulla Ahmadi, both 26, were each sentenced to 21 years for two counts of rape committed on 4 October 2025. Karin Al-Danasurt, 21, received 18 years and six months for four counts of rape as a secondary party after filming the assault. Judge Christine Henson KC handed down the sentences at Hove Crown Court. Each man will serve two thirds of his term before parole eligibility and an additional six years on extended licence.
Alshafe and Ahmadi arrived in the UK by small boat from France in June 2025, while Al-Danasurt entered the country in October 2024. Alshafe and Al-Danasurt had been roommates at Home Office-approved hotel accommodation in West Sussex. Ministers have vowed to deport the men, and Ahmadi has reportedly signed deportation paperwork.
